Of course, you have heard the saying, “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” This simply reminds you that you shouldn’t stand there waiting for opportunity to happen.
You have to get out there and make it happen! Such a strong statement that adds optimism when you feel like nothing seems to go your way or at worse when you feel like failing.
Almost everyone is chasing for success. We try to determine the best place where to get that opportunity and tell ourselves that what we need is one good break to make things go in the right direction. Often times, when that break seems too long to materialize, we end up losing focus and eventually give up.
The biggest and 1st step to do if you really want to get that opportunity is to declare within yourself that you can make it happen. If you do not believe in yourself, then who will?
Stop thinking that your stars are not aligned, or it’s not in your genes or you missed the perfect timing. There are multiple ways to take advantage of building strategies that will help you create opportunities you don’t even see coming.
Want to make opportunities happen? Then follow these steps:
1. Get out of your comfort zone.
If your daily hustle is considered a key factor to success, then you would have landed with multiple opportunities instead of waiting in vain for it to occur. We have to learn how to push ourselves to do more and be more than what we are right now.
We need to get out there and learn new things, talk to people and learn from them and be more creative in finding ways to accomplish our passion. There are hundreds of experiences that are waiting to be discovered. Whether they are aligned with your vision of success or not, the right experiences will change you and make you a better person.
2. Learn things you never thought you can do.
If you are limiting yourselves with only the things that you are able to do, then you are missing half of the opportunities out there. I love to write but if I let my non-techie self rule my thoughts, I wouldn’t have started my blog site. I would have missed out this chance of sharing my articles to the rest of the world.
Find ways on how to learn to improve your craft or better yet how to learn something absolutely new or out of this world for you. I’ve always mentioned having a coach or mentor really helps a lot in your self improvement. It’s always best to learn from someone’s first hand experience on how they rise through the challenges and moved forward to success.
3. Prepare yourself by developing success habits.
Everybody says success doesn’t happen overnight. But when does it really start to happen?
You can start preparing yourself right now with habits that will pave the way for opportunities to happen. Whether you’re busy with your work or still looking for that dream job, start to develop yourself by reading a lot, focus on your priorities, live a healthy life style, build a good social network with friends and family, and spend quality time with your loved ones. These are the fundamentals that you will need to retain in your lifestyle even when you become successful.
Don’t ever wait to become too busy before you start developing habits that will keep you strong physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. As Robert Herjavec said, “Someday’ isn’t a real day like Monday or Tuesday. It’s just another word for ‘Never.”
4. Improve confidence.
Take time to dive deeply to get to know yourself. Learn how to visualize living a life of passion and success. Find out where your core strength lies and build strategies around it to increase your confidence.
It’s so easy to focus on the failures and misses. But once we learn from it we need to get back up and never let our self-doubts get the best of us. Focus on the things that we can control and ignore the inner critics in us that keeps on pulling us down.
Building self confidence is not easy when faced with daily struggles. That’s why we should not forget to ignore the little successes in our daily lives like when you help your mom solve a problem, finally finish a good book, or when you discover a new product that is cheaper with better quality, etc. Bundle them all together and it will help you see things with more optimism and confidence.
5. Don’t be afraid to fail.
Lastly, when you have programmed yourself by doing the above exercises, visualize yourself as someone well prepared for the coming obstacles. Remind yourself of the times when you failed and how it has helped in your self-improvement. Understand that failure is temporary and it is a part of the major keys for you to attain your goals.
Your fear of failing is NOT your reality. Oftentimes, it is just your ego or self-esteem who’s afraid to fail. Instead, think of it as your mind telling you to be more cautious and be prepared. Take advantage of this fear by learning how to overcome the potential problems coming way.
In the end, no one really knows what the outcome will be. Only you can decide how you want to come out as a winner whether in the face of success or in the midst of failure.
